Plant molecular farming (PMF) has been promoted since the 1990s as a rapid, cost-effective and (most of all) safe alternative to cultivation bacteria or animal cells for production biopharmaceutical proteins. Numerous plant species have investigated broad range protein-based drug candidates. The inherent safety these products is frequently highlighted an advantage PMF because viruses do not replicate in humans vice versa. However, more nuanced analysis this principle required when considering other pathogens toxic compounds pose risk even absence replication.
